Maddux's exit? As quiet as a tap-in
November 30, 2008
On the cell from his home in Las Vegas, Greg Maddux sounded as though he probably has made a decision. But there are more important things in life, like the game of golf he just played with son Chase.

When Maddux says goodbye, he'll do it quietly

Bulls radio voice Chuck Swirsky happy back in Chicago
November 23, 2008
Chuck Swirsky never has a bad day, not even the day after the Bulls were annihilated in Portland 116-74. The game was not as close as the score indicated, but their radio voice was rife with passion and energy, even though the vanquished visitors appeared to lack either or both.

Blackhawks honor Pilote, Magnuson
November 12, 2008
Pierre Pilote expressed his appreciation in person. Up there in hockey heaven, Keith Magnuson surely had all his teeth in place to flash a big smile. This World Series worth watching
October 26, 2008
So you've checked your bucket list, and watching this World Series isn't on it. The Cubs or White Sox aren't there, so you aren't interested. The Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays will have to play without you.

Scotty Bowman making mark on Hawks
October 18, 2008
Scotty Bowman is a hockey god in Detroit, and for good reason, so he did not leave his consultant's position with the Red Wings for a similar job with the Blackhawks because he likes the restaurants in Chicago.

A Cubs' miracle? It was just a pipe dream
October 11, 2008
A different response, not altogether wrong or unreasonable, has emerged from the Cubs' crash course in Failure 100. Since 1908, or so I have been told, their fans have treated this little World Series drought with a variety of emotions.

Political juice prevents Sox's move to Florida
October 5, 2008
The telephone call was from a White Sox investor. His voice was low, almost a whisper, and not only because the clock showed a stroke before midnight on June 30, 1988. He sounded depressed, as if to report a death in the family.

Holtzman smoked foes, lit up rooms
July 27, 2008
My contributions to Tribune lore have been modest and few, but one for which I will take credit occurred during the major league All-Star Game in Cleveland in 1981.
